After travelling to places where a lot of walking was involved I was ready for the most relaxing holiday I could think of! Beach, sitting by the pool, cocktails, hot weather… Perfect!
So we all decided to go on a Menorca family holiday! And before we knew it we were flying to sunny Menorca, Mahon!
Now Menorca is a nice place to visit. So In this post find out what we did and didn’t like about it. What we did and tips to have an even better time in Mahon… Plus a link to discounts on a holiday to Mahon, staying at Carema hotel
We stayed in Carema hotels in Playa de Fornells. It was a big resort, with a shop that sells all the basics. And then the main pool/activity area. Though this place was out in the middle of nowhere. So if you wanted to venture
further you would need to take the bus.
The apartment itself was lovely. Nice and clean with a small kitchen, dining area and free Wi-Fi (the most important!)
There is also a beach nearby called Cala Tirant within 5-minute walking distance. It was nice to cool down in the sea because it was so hot! But also great for finding crabs and other creatures amongst the rocks. Perfect for the kids.
The food was ok. We went all inclusive. There were pizza, fish, chicken nuggets for the kids. And a huge range of foods if you are not a fussy eater! As a family, I guess we are not that adventurous on food and just like the basic. There was a lot of seafood, octopus and various other concoctions which we wouldn’t try though, but we are in Spain!
There was a bar outside next to the swimming pool, which comes with the all-inclusive. You can get hot dogs, cocktails (loved the moijos), soft drinks and beer all day long.
There was plenty of activities to do. The holiday reps put on plenty of activities, which included aqua aerobics, darts, fun team games, mini golf , there is also a kids club.
You also have the main pool, which my kids stayed in for hours for the first few days. And there is also a free splash park you can go to, It’s not that big, with only a few slides and bridges. But great for smaller kids.
I especially liked the night swimming party that they hosted. It was the world cup when France beat England. And at night we all jumped in the pool and splashed and celebrated. It was fun.
And the entertainment at night? Well, it started at 7 pm with a kids disco. And then you had to wait around for an hour and 30 minutes for more entertainment to start. Also, on some nights it wasn’t the best entertainment.
They put the ps3 game called, Just Dance and everyone had to dance and follow the steps on the game. Another night was a music quiz night. But that was it. Only on one of the nights, they hired out some Spanish belly dancers which I thought we pretty good.
Worth Going To Menorca, Mahon?
So was it worth the money? It depends what type of holiday people like. For us, it was ok for 4 days, as it can get a little repetitive and the same things on every day.
I hate to say this but on day 4 we were ready to go home! Though this is nothing bad on the hotel. The place was nice and the staff are helpful and friendly.
The problem I think with this type of holiday, you would really need to book day trips out. We didn’t because we didn’t really have that much money left, after saving up to pay for the hotel, flights etc etc.. Or at the very least not to be in the middle of nowhere so we could walk to a town…
There was a nice boat trip you could pay to go on. As well as dancing horses, which is supposed to be a great show.
What do you think of these types of holidays?
Do you book for trips out?
Are these your favorite holidays?
