The underground can vary from line to line but usually runs between 5am and midnight
All you need to do is purchase an oyster card and put however much money you want on it.
Oyster cards can also be used on the buses. The London buses are very reliable and come every 6 minutes. A lot of the buses run 24 hours so you have no worry with planning how you are going to get back after a certain time. But are less frequent during early hours of the morning
All taxis should have a London license disk so check beforehand for safety reasons. London Taxis are also not on meter so ask about the prices.
Uber is a convenient way to get from place to place in London.
This is a fast and frequent mode of transport and who wouldn’t like to sit and relax down the river Thames just for the experience… You can use your oyster card or contactless to ride, and can go to a wide range of locations around London
You can find routes and timetables here : London Timetables
If you are planning to travel by bus, underground or river boat you will need an oyster card. You can get these online here or at various places around London including underground stations and Heathrow Airport. They are pretty simple to use and you can top up on any ticket stations in the underground.
Remember that when you access AND exit the underground you will need to scan your oyster card, on the ticket machines. Otherwise, you will get charged around £6
Travelodge is one of the best places to stay in London. There are plenty of them around and are one of the cheapest. Not only that but clean, relaxing, friendly staff, bar open 24 hours – so somewhere to go for a nice relaxing, quiet drink when you can’t sleep at night. Also, serves meals and buffet breakfast in the morning.
Other options are airbnb, but make sure to do your research on good areas to stay in London and is within reach of a nearby subway.
There are so many things to do in London and the list is endless but here is a few things we did and recommend.
Theater : We went to see wicked, it was amazing. Recommended!!
Emirates London cable car: Nice journey from one side to the other, you can use your oyster card for this.
Sky Garden: The best free view of London, great experience. At the top there is a bar and you can also order food. So you can relax and take in the view.
London bridge: Great experience, especially walking along the see through area looking down at the city.
Westminster Abby: Place of burial sites including monarchs, prime ministers and the unknown warrior also where royal weddings took place.
Tower of London: There are lots to see here including the crown jewels, bloody tower, the medieval palace…
The London eye: The most popular tourist attraction, some amazing views once you get to the top of the wheel, and gives you are 360 degree view of London.
Madam Tussaud: We actually never got to see madam Tussaud, but was a lot of fun when we visited one in New York. We did go to the place but the line was sooo long! Never seen anything like it! So just to warn you it may be best to book tickets in advance for this one.
This is the most popular and cheapest bar and restaurant to visit. With good serving sizes and nice food. They are all over the UK. We visited one in London and usually go for the big breakfasts in the morning! But they are so busy sometimes it can be impossible to find a seat, but always worth a look and don’t go at peak times and you will be fine.
They don’t go under the name of wetherspoons though, that’s why online is handy and will tell you the name of the wetherspoons in your location
In London, we went to a wetherspoons called, red lion and the pineapple.
This is an expensive restaurant, but well worth the visit if you get a chance. The food is amazing, never knew food could taste that good – well I am used to microwaving meals at home:)
For starters I had the chicken and liver pate
and Alan the pea and ham soup
Mains was steak – I have to tell you something about Marco Pierre restaurant, the only thing that I didn’t like about the mains was that if you order steak, then that’s all you get on a plate!
We were expecting some chips? Maybe Potatoes? I wish the waitress had asked us would you like any side orders? I think you had to pay £5 for any extras but that would have been fine! The couple next to us also had the same problem and wondered why they only got a steak on a plate!
Desserts lemon cheesecake
Again just gorgeous, so soft it melts in your mouth, very moreish.
If you are interested in visiting Marco Pierre steakhouse I recommend buying the buy a gift card as you can save some money Buy A Gift
The long acre bar
Nice atmosphere but very expensive. If you are looking for cheap drinks stay away from Covent garden area, 2 pints here cost us £10.80
1 Upper St Martins Lane, Covent Garden WC2H 9NY.
A fun place to visit if you are looking for a lively bar, I loved it here. Lots to keep you entertained. There are comedy shows, singers, bar staff dancing and singing on the tables… You do have to pay to go in the circus room when the comedy/entertainment starts but it’s cheap around £4 (well at least when we went, but may vary on the acts)
Then the room will open again for free where you can have a dance. And is open until 1:30 am
Red lion and the pineapple
Across the road from the aeronaut, this is a wetherspoons pub – so it is cheap! £5.98 for 2 pints, now that’s more like it! You won’t find any music playing here though, but is just a nice place where you can sit and have a beer and chat.
The castle was across the road from our hotel. On the Friday night it is a great pub, very lively and loud music, you can also sit outside in a nice, chilled beer garden.
So we decided to go back here on a Saturday night, taking the bus back and staying here as it’s close to our hotel, but couldn’t believe how dead it was! And they shut early too. I guess their main night is a Friday night. So we ended up getting the bus back to the aeronaut!
Victoria Rd, North Acton, London W3 6UL
